## Architecture Decisions Made

### 1. Behavior-Based Polymorphism ✅

Using `@behaviour` instead of protocols for:
- Compile-time checking
- Clear documentation
- Better tooling support

### 2. Tagged Tuple Error Handling ✅

Convention: `{:ok, result}` | `{:error, reason}` | `:none`

### 3. Explicit State Threading ✅

All functions return updated state, never mutate.

### 4. ETF for Persistence ✅

Using `:erlang.term_to_binary` for state serialization.

### 5. Telemetry for Observability ✅

Planning to use `:telemetry` for metrics and monitoring.

### 6. Task.async_stream for Concurrency ✅

Planned for parallel batch evaluation.

---

## Test Strategy in Action

### Unit Tests (23 tests) ✅
- EvaluationBatch: 6 tests
- CandidateProposal: 6 tests
- Pareto utilities: 11 tests
- DataLoader: 6 tests (includes 1 doctest)

### Property-Based Tests (6 properties) ✅
- Pareto invariants: 6 properties
- All passing with 30-50 runs each

### Integration Tests (0 tests)
- Planned after engine implementation

---

## Performance Baseline

**Current Benchmarks:**
- Pareto domination check: <1ms for 20 programs
- Property tests: ~100ms for 50 runs
- Test suite: ~0.1s total

**Target Benchmarks:**
- Single optimization iteration: <10s (LLM-bound)
- Parallel evaluation (100 examples): <5s
- State save/load: <50ms
